Bryceville’s Joshua Moseley attained the highly coveted rank of Eagle Scout March 27 after completing 45 merit badges.
Eighteen Scouts in Fernandina Beach Boy Scout Troop 89 earned 39 merit badges in 18 categories during a Court of Honor at the First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach. Six Scouts had rank advancements.
As they earn merit badges, Scouts learn about sports, crafts, science, trades, business and future careers. In keeping with the times, the Boy Scouts of America released new badges like animation, digital technology, programming, game design, search and rescue, welding, robotics, geocaching and scuba diving. Scouts must earn 21 merit badges from more than 100 available to earn the rank of Eagle.
Moseley is the son of Rick and Barbara Moseley of Bryceville. His father, also an Eagle Scout, had the honor of awarding his Eagle Rank.
Moseley completed his service project at Cary State Forest in Bryceville, where he performed over 300 hours of community service, including pressure washing a 1,500-foot board walk, constructing campsite benches and lantern posts and installing masonry around fire rings and grills at six new camp sites.
Troop 89 is a strong troop with more than 20 active Scouts. Any boy age 11 through 18 is invited to join. No past scouting experience or background is required. Troop 89 meets most Monday evenings 6:30 p.m. at the Adam Kelley Scout Hut in Central Park at 35 S. 13th St. in Fernandina Beach.
The troop is led by a sharp team of caring leaders. The Rev. Dr. Wain Wesberry, pastor and head of staff at First Presbyterian Fernandina Beach, serves as scoutmaster.
The Fernandina Beach Rotary Club has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 89 for more than 80 years.
