A CVS Pharmacy customer filled his own prescription by brandishing a gun Sunday. He was arrested soon after leaving the store.

The theft occurred near 11:30 a.m. at the Callahan store, 542325 U.S. 1. Sheriff Bill Leeper said Walter Kevin Whiddon, 60, approached the pharmacy counter wearing a straw hat, dark jacket and blue jeans.

“The suspect told the pharmacist to give him fentanyl patches and showed her a handgun that he had in his right front pocket,” he said. “Once the suspect received the patches, he fled the scene in a blue dodge truck with a Florida Gators sticker on the back window.”

Whiddon is a frequent customer of the store, Leeper said. Deputies went to Whiddon’s home, where they allegedly recovered the fentanyl patches and arrested Whiddon for robbery with a firearm and theft of a controlled substance.

He was booked into the Nassau County Jail. Bond was set at $100,002.
