The West Nassau Historical Society awarded several artists during the sixth edition of Nassau Art at the Callahan Depot Saturday.
Nearly 200 patrons visited the 2.5-hour judged exhibit of artwork submitted by 15 adult artists and more than a dozen high school students. Jacksonville artist Pablo Rivera examined the art.
In the adult painting category, Ginger Bender won first place as well as people’s choice for McGirts Creek. Gary Johns won second place for Tatanka Great Bison while Barbara Davis placed third with Blue Iris.
Hugh Graham won first place with Towering Yucca in adult photography/CGI while James Widerman placed second with Man Working on Pipe Organ and Evelyn McDonald received third for Hidden Figures.
In adult 3-D art, April Eason won first place for Warrior Pride. Elizabeth Weigel won second with The Osprey and Lester Simmons placed third with Linda the Woman.
Fernandina Beach High School student Jillian Cason won best of division for Grampa Alan in the student open division. West Nassau High School student Kailyn Wofford won first place for Hummingbirds while WNHS’ Michelle Hamilton took second for Tom Petty and FBHS’ Gage Perna placed third for Walking the Dog.
Each first-place adult received a $50 gift card and the top four student artists were given $25 gift cards. The top three paintings plus the top artwork from photography and 3-D art are on display this week at the Judge Foster Justice Center in Yulee. They then travel to the Amelia Island Museum of History the next week, followed by VyStar Credit Union in Callahan and finally the Southeastern Bank Hilliard branch.
