The Callahan Garden Club celebrates 77 years of service to the community. Club members met in February to celebrate the milestone. Board member Barbara Wheeler spoke of how the club has become a family and read relic newspaper articles on the club’s history. In 1944, the garden club donated $9.03 to the troops in World War II. The Callahan Garden Club also welcomed Master Gardener Candace Bridgewater of Fernandina Beach to the meeting. She shared her expertise on bluebirds, including that not that long ago, bluebirds were an endangered species. The garden club is always open to new members with educational programs the first Wednesday of each month at the clubhouse on Fourth Avenue in Callahan. For further information, call 904-583-2123.
