C.W. Hilliard American Legion Post 401 Commander Hugh Harris cuts a ribbon to celebrate the grand opening of the new building at Henry Smith Road and U.S. 1 March 17. Hilliard businessman Bobby Franklin and contractor David Taylor hold a plaque presented by Harris. The plaque is in memory of Taylor’s late father and Army veteran Cpt. Paul D. Taylor Sr. The plaque will hang inside the post. West Nassau’s Air Force JROTC Flight 955 cadets presented the colors as guests salute the flag. Hilliard Mayor Cris McConnell also addressed the crowd. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a barbecue prepared by Londrell Blake of Folkston, Ga. The new post includes a canteen, kitchen, meeting space, offices and a large outdoor patio. The branches of the military are posted on the building’s façade.
