  • YET members practice extinguishing fires at their recent meeting.

The Nassau County Youth Emergency Team learned about fire safety, tourism and active shooter safety Oct. 25.

Capt. Greg Foster of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office led the discussion. The youth learned strategies to protect themselves and others should these horrible events ever happen to them. Foster instructed on how to recognize suspicious people, vehicles and packages and what should be done in these circumstances. Everyone felt they had the knowledge to know what to do should that situation occur.

Kelly Gunnell and Fire Station 30 explained fire safety. She explained several precautionary measures, such as cleaning lint from the dryer, charging phones charge on night stands instead of on your bed and making sure space heaters are off. She also explained what should be done in the event of a fire and how to keep our family safe. YET members also practiced using fire extinguishers.
