Korean War veteran Harry Summerville and Glenn Beck, both Marines, cut a cake in celebration of the 240th anniversary of the military branch during the annual Community Military and Veterans Appreciation Night at West Nassau High School Nov. 10. Beck was stationed in Beirut in the early 1980s. The Liberty Express Band performed. During halftime of the Warriors’ game, the Air Force JROTC reenacted the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima and veterans were honored on the field. Earlier that day, U.S. Chief Warrant Officer Ray Whaley enjoyed lunch with daughter Chloe Whaley after Callahan Middle School held a Veterans Day assembly. The wind ensemble, chorus and Big Engine’s Tony Mikus and Hans Oellerich performed.
