The Mighty Warriors and their families enjoyed a fun-filled day at Callahan Intermediate School Sept. 29.

The day began with the students participating in a school-wide fundraiser to raise money for the Literacy Reading Program. Over a two-week period, students sought pledges and donations to give back to the school. The students were collecting pledges for each lap they could run during the Warrior Fun Run.

The students ran as music played and challenged their principal and assistant principal on the track. Parents and family members came out to cheer on the students.

The fun continued into the night as families came back to the school to join in on the Family STEM Night. Families had dinner, did a little book fair shopping and participated in numerous science experiments. Students and families made space shuttles with appropriate landing gear, created exploding volcanoes, exploding bags and canisters, created edible cookie suns, made gooey slime and build a structure that could withstand a Jello earthquake.

Students created solar comets and saw how static electricity works. Families then had to put their brains to the test to answer solar system trivia questions. These trivia questions were a good review for the next challenge, solar system escape room. Families had to answer trivia questions to unlock boxes to get a one-way ticket home.
