Western Nassau’s most dedicated source for local news and sports will arrive a day earlier beginning next week. Actually, on Tuesday next week, two days earlier due to the Fourth of July holiday. But after the July 4th issue, the Nassau County Record will arrive in your mailbox every Wednesday.
Our staff is thrilled to offer advertisers a chance to announce their weekend sales a day earlier so that their customers can make plans to shop. We are also excited to bring you Friday night football, government meeting coverage, features on local residents and more even earlier than we were able to before. Our digital edition will actually upload to our website Tuesday evening, giving you your news even sooner if you prefer to login to view it online. A subscription to the E-edition is free with every Record subscription and even digital-only subscriptions are available.
The Record first published as the Callahan News and was delivered on Fridays from the first delivery in 1930 until July 30, 1931, when it switched to Thursdays. It remained a Thursday publication for nearly 87 years. The newspaper became the Nassau County Record Jan. 1, 1948, during the 18th year of publication, offering a name that shows the newspaper’s focus is on more than just Callahan.
This modification of our publication day means our deadlines will move up one day earlier. Please note that all legal and display advertisements must be filed with our office no later than noon the Friday before the edition in which the advertisement is to appear. The classified advertisement deadline will move to Monday at 4 p.m. and all obituaries must be received by 10 a.m. Monday morning.
Community calendar submissions should be received by the editor no later than noon on Friday when at all possible. Entries received after that deadline will only be published if time and page space allow.
We know growing pains will occur as we adjust to the new deadlines and we aim to work with all our advertisers to make this as smooth of a transition as possible. This is a goal we have worked toward for several years and we are eager to roll the Record off the press sooner and be waiting in your mailbox every Wednesday.
Other than the earlier deadlines and new publication day, no other changes are occurring. This newspaper, owned by Community Newspapers, Inc. since 2000, continues to strive to serve our readers with the most accurate, timely and thorough news we can provide.
Thank you for inviting us into your home each week.
