Kody Barger of Hilliard is Nassau County’s 4-H’er of the Year.
Each year, Nassau County 4-H chooses one youth who has gone above and beyond to show dedication to their club, community, country and the world. This 4-H’er is a model for those around them and demonstrates the generosity and mastery that 4-H strives to instill in all of its members. For the 2016-17 4-H year, Barger is that 4-H’er.
Barger is the recreation leader and reporter for County Council. He has served well in those positions, leading games and activities at meetings, officer training and the 4-H Christmas party.
He has also participated in all of 4-H’s service projects, including collecting for Toys for Tots and spending time with adults with disabilities at The Arc Nassau.
Nassau County 4-H Extension Agent Kristen Poppell said Barger is always reliable and the first to volunteer to help out in any situation. Over the last year, he has volunteered at several fundraisers and countless events, including filling in at the last minute to teach at one of this summer’s 4-H day camps.
In addition to his dedication at the county level, Barger has completed several individual projects this year, including two cooking project books. Outside of 4-H, he participates in many other service projects in the community, including laying flags at the National Cemetery for Memorial Day and coordinating the recycling at the Northeast Florida Fair.
“From all of us at 4-H, we are so proud of you, Kody, and want to thank you for truly being an outstanding 4-H’er,” Poppell said.
